Monkey monster dolls at the MF Toy Show

These monkeys were designed by Bianca Panzram.

I went to the MF Gallery opening of the 2009 MF Toy Show last night in Brooklyn, NY. There were lots of crazy toys designed by talented artists. I wanted to take everything home. Some of it was gross, some was cute, some was weird, but nothing was conventional, and everything was inspirational.
These simple striped monkeys by Bianca Panzram were my favorites.
Artists and studios included:
Cupco! (fun site!)
Elmer Presslee (bonus monkey on the front page of the site)
Nikki Taylor (did I find the right artist here?)
Mary Doyle (bonus chimp on front page of the site :)

I'm thinking of heading back to buy a piece or two. I highly recommend it if you are into toys, in the toy industry, or just need to be inspired by some wicked art.

Animal

Lots of monsters in this window with the Muppet, Animal!

I was walking my dog near the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, and found this Animal from The Muppets in a musical instrument store that looks closed down.

Garbage monster

There's a monster collecting your trash.

I author a blog called Millions of Monkeys with a few other contributors. It's basically a way for me to log all the monkeys I run across in my daily life. A while back I thought it would be a good idea to do something similar (actually the same), but with monsters. So, there you have it. This is "Millions of Monsters." Starts with this first monster.

This garbage truck monster was wedged on a garbage truck outside one of the Sanitation buildings in Brooklyn, NYC. Sometimes you'll see a plush doll or teddy wired to the grill in the front. Today while walking my dog outside my art studio, I saw a monster. And, though I was already inclined to do this blog, props go to the Sanitation guys who did this, and inspired me to get it going.
