Monsters invade Brooklyn

There's a monster on the wall I can see from my window ;)

The Monster Project at themonsterproject.net is right outside my living room window! Don't know why I never noticed this before.

In a collaborative effort with New York City public school children, Kylin O'Brien is painting giant monsters around the city.

Ask about my zombie shirt

Ask me about my zombie shirt.

Ask me about my zomb…BRaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiNS!

A friend tagged me, and posted this on Facebook. I am definitely ordering one. I just wish t-shirt companies would stop making sleeves for people who want to hide their arms. T-shirt sleeves shouldn't reach your elbow unless you're 9 years old or younger.

Alec Jones - monster of an artist

Alec Jones' Dragon is cute AND cool!

I was perusing in a blog I don't frequent enough, and found this really great artist Alec Jones. He's got a variety of art, but I love his monsters. The style makes sense in so many ways. His imagination, and ability for putting tons of detail in something so simple makes me jealous as an artist myself. Nice work, Alec. What you call a "doodle" I'd hang in my living room. Great zombie!

Check out Drawn! (where I found him)

Betty Bones like him too ;)

Monkey monster dolls at the MF Toy Show

These monkeys were designed by Bianca Panzram.

I went to the MF Gallery opening of the 2009 MF Toy Show last night in Brooklyn, NY. There were lots of crazy toys designed by talented artists. I wanted to take everything home. Some of it was gross, some was cute, some was weird, but nothing was conventional, and everything was inspirational.
These simple striped monkeys by Bianca Panzram were my favorites.
Artists and studios included:
Cupco! (fun site!)
Elmer Presslee (bonus monkey on the front page of the site)
Nikki Taylor (did I find the right artist here?)
Mary Doyle (bonus chimp on front page of the site :)

I'm thinking of heading back to buy a piece or two. I highly recommend it if you are into toys, in the toy industry, or just need to be inspired by some wicked art.

Death by scissor

A great image from The Zombz Facebook page.

The Zombz are DK, Rot, and Wreck, a trio of undead teens. How cool is that? A kid-friendly introduction to horror. Where were these guys when I was a kid? I had to watch Hammer Films in the dark by myself. Everyone can love these guys… day or night.

…and don't run with scissors unless you're running from Zombies.

This is squarey

Anthony, the Squarey Monster,
and the "only cycloptopus ever known."

This is Anthony of the Squarey Monsters. They are a cute set of monsters with their own clever origins and missions. Anthony, for instance, helps kids find things that they lost.

The Squarey Monsters are designed by Monkey Doodle Dandy.

Totally kid-friendy. Here's the Squarey Monsters Blog.

Animal

Lots of monsters in this window with the Muppet, Animal!

I was walking my dog near the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, and found this Animal from The Muppets in a musical instrument store that looks closed down.
